Swarming is natural reproductive behavior for honey bees and occurs most often from March through July. A swarm will gather in clump while determining location of their new home. As they do not yet have a home to defend, swarms are not usually aggressive. If you leave them alone, they will leave you alone. Please do not spray or disturb them. Contact a beekeeper as soon as possible. The NCSBA has over 80 chapters with members in nearly every county in North Carolina. Use our chapter locator map to find a chapter near you. If the chapter has a website, the map pin will include a link. Each chapter has their own policy and procedures for dealing with swarms and many have a page on their website with details regarding swarms and how to report them. Please note, this is only for finding assistance with honey bees, not ground-dwelling bees, carpenter bees, yellowjackets, wasps, hornets, bumble bees, etc. Thank you for wanting to help the bees.
