It has worked out great in the past. Hope to see you in the Spring. We will start with woodware and other tools. We will cover an entire year of beekeeping. Wake Beginning Beekeeping Class – Saturday 8am - 5 pm plus Sunday 1 -3 pm Full day Saturday workshop with ongoing hands on sessions during the spring and summer. Wake County Commons Building Visit the Wake County Beekeepers Association for more details and to register. Registration fee includes membership in WCBA and NCSBA, lunch and a copy of First Lessons in Beekeeping book (Delaplane). NCSBA certification test will be taken at the end of the workshop. Wilson Beginning Beekeeping Class – 1 day + 3 field days Wilson County Agricultural Center $50 per person. Includes club membership and access to unlimited field days in club apiary. The class includes one day in the classroom and 3 days of hands on experience in the club apiary. Field Days in Club Apiary will begin as soon as weather allows following the Beginning Bee Class and will include; Installation of packages and nucs and hands on management of newly established colonies mentored by experienced beekeepers. Watauga Beginning Beekeeping and Apiary Mentoring Course – March 14-August 29, 2020 14 hours classroom instruction plus four field sessions (one per month, May through August) Saturday, March 14 (6pm-9pm); Saturday, April 4 (6pm-9pm); Tuesday, April 7 (4pm-6pm); Field days TBD Watauga County Extension Center $75 per person, includes membership in Watauga County Beekeepers Association and NCSBA Course is designed to guide students through their first season of beekeeping. The classroom instruction component will address, among other topics, choice of equipment, apiary site location and construction, maintenance of healthy colonies through the seasons, honey extraction, and honey and wax production. In addition to classroom instruction, 4 field mentoring sessions will be conducted. Certified-level Beekeeper written and practical exams of MBP will be offered at end of components. Richmond Beginning Beekeeping Class – One day workshop with field day, May 2nd. Richmond County Extension Office $5.00 This is a one day workshop that will include hive construction, the history of honeybees, pests, hive placement, obtaining bees, honey extracting, and other bee related topics. We will provide a light lunch and refreshments. Weather permitting, we will have a hive of bees that will be manipulated by one of our beekeepers. The hive will be inside a cage; so protective gear is not necessary.
