Annual Meetings of the NCSBA

The NCSBA holds statewide conventions twice a year, in the Spring and Summer.  In odd-numbered years, the Spring Meeting is held jointly with the South Carolina Beekeepers Association, alternating locale between states.

Special Events

  • Cooking With Honey Contest -- Bring your entries to the Culinary Kitchen in Little Hall between 9:00-10:00 AM Friday. An entry form will be provided. Prepare your entries according to the Cooking With Honey Guidelines. Winners awarded at Friday night banquet. Entries served at Saturday morning break, so cook a bunch of extras!
  • Honey Competition -- Prepare honey and related entries according to the Honey Competition Guidelines. Winners awarded at banquet.
  • Silent Auction -- You never know what kind of deals you will find on the Silent Auction tables! All proceeds go to the Apiculture Science Fund to sponsor honey bee research at NCSU. Bring your tax deductible donations of beekeeping equipment and honey bee related books, art, novelties, etc. to be auctioned for a good cause.
  • Vendor exhibits -- Sales booths will provide interesting browsing of the latest beekeeping gadgets and opportunities of stocking up on equipment, supplies, and books.Dr. Robert Danks
  • Plenary Address -- Breeding Better Bees: Musings on the State of the Art, by guest speaker Bob Danka, USDA Honey Bee Breeding, Genetics & Physiology Lab, Baton Rouge, LA. Bob is a Research Entomologist who has studied Africanized bee behavior and abatement technology, and genetic resistance of honey bees to tracheal mites. His current research focuses on the genetic basis of pollination related foraging behavior of experimental and commercial bee stocks. See list of his publications.
  • Banquet -- Friday night dining, entertainment, and awards. Tickets can be ordered with Advance Registration (recommended) or can be purchased at the registration desk if any are left -- seating is limited to 300.

Sandhills Horticultural Gardens -- Located at the meeting site, the gardens provide a unique opportunity for your free time enjoyment and enrichment. Open to the public from dawn to sunset.
