* Anyone wishing to take the practical test for Certified Level should bring their own veil, smoker, and related items. If you are taking either the MBP Certified practical or Journeyman practical, please meet at the testing room during testing periods.  Practical testing for the MBP Certified Level will be held in the apiary and will be coordinated with Rick Coor. Special Events

  • Cooking with Honey Contest – Contestants can submit their entries on Friday, July 11th in Randolph Hall, Room 727 between 9:00 – 10:00 am.  Refer to campus maps [ wcc campus ] [ wcc campus detail ] or check at registration desk for directions.
  • Honey Contest – Contestants can submit their entries before Friday, July 11th at 9:00 am in the Orchestra Room of the Walker Center.  Entries may be dropped off starting on Thursday, but must be submitted before 9:00 am on Friday (according to the contest rules).
  • Banquet Friday Night (limit 300)
  • Door Prizes Each Day
  • Vendor Displays and Equipment Sales
  • Dr. John T. Ambrose: Preparatory Short Course for the Certified and Journeyman Levels of the MBP – This class will teach beginning and intermediate beekeeping in preparation for the Certified or Journeyman levels of the Master Beekeeper Program. Handouts and the book, “First Lessons in Beekeeping” by Dadant will be provided. No discounts will be giving for those already having or sharing a book. There will be a short coffee break during the class with refreshments provided. There is also vending machines nearby.   Note to participants who pre-registered for this class:  If you pre-registered, you may park at the bottom of the hill outside of Thompson Hall and check-in at Thompson Hall.  [ Thompson Hall Parking Map ] Only those who pre-registered, either by mail or online may check-in at Thompson Hall.  All others must go up to the Walker Auditorium lobby to check-in.
  • Silent Auction – Please bring donations of beekeeping items, tools, or other useful things. Proceeds go to the Apiculture Science Fund at NCSU Entomology/Beekeeping Department.
  • Raffle tickets to win a bee quilt will be available for purchase ($5/ticket) during the conference
  • Bee Buddies Program: Free to children from 8 – 12 years of age. Friday, July 11th from 10:00 am – 11:30 am at the Watson Theatre located on the lower campus behind the red caboose. This program will include hands on activities to introduce children to beekeeping and life in a honey bee hive.   • Lunch Options: The Walker Center at Wilkes Community College will be offering boxed lunches for sale during the conference on Friday and Saturday for those who would prefer to not go out to one of the local establishments during lunch. Costs of the boxed lunches will be $4 – $6 depending on the choice an individual makes. The Walker Center will provide this concession and take responsibility for preparing and vending. If you’d prefer to go out to eat, a list of local establishments to choose from will be provided in the check-in packets.
